Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office SWAT team is designated law enforcement team, whose members are selected, trained, equipped, and assigned to resolve high-risk incidents involving a threat to public safety which would otherwise exceed the capabilities of traditional law enforcement first responders and/or investigative units.
The Mission of SWAT in any high-risk incident is to save lives and bring the incident to a safe conclusion. High-risk incidents that SWAT may be called to resolve consist of, but are not limited to:
- Hostage incident
- Barricade incident
- Sniper incident
- High-Risk Apprehension
- High-Risk Warrant Service
- Personal protection details
- Terrorism
- Special Assignment
SWAT is a part time team. SWAT members perform their full time duties within the Sheriff's Office on a day-to-day basis, but are on-call to respond to high-risk incidents as needed. Although SWAT is a part time team, all members are assigned various positions within SWAT.

SWAT trains with and has received training from various law enforcement agencies and professional organizations. SWAT members are trained in all aspects of SWAT operations to include but not limited to:
- Resolution of high-risk incidents
- Room clearing
- Mechanical, thermal, ballistic, and explosive breaching
- Sniper/observer
- Distraction devices
- Night vision devices
- Less lethal equipment
- Deployment of chemical agents
- Tactical maritime operations
