Vivia Dimmer, Tax Director, began her career with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office in January 1999. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Southeastern Louisiana University in May 2009. Prior to her employment with the Sheriff’s Office, she worked for the Lincoln Parish Detention Center in Ruston, LA where she served in various capacities such as booking, bonding, training, transportation and administration; she earned the rank of Sergeant. She also worked for the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women in St. Gabriel, LA, earning the rank of Sergeant. As Tax Director, she is responsible for the tax office, which collects more than $450 million annually in property taxes for East Baton Rouge Parish. The taxes collected are disbursed each month to various entities such as the School Board, Assessor, BREC, City/Parish and Fire Districts. In addition, she is responsible for the Fines Department, which collects all criminal and traffic fines for the 19th Judicial District Court and remits these amounts to the courts and the appropriate agencies on a monthly basis. She is a member of (GFOA) Government Finance Officers Association of Louisiana. The Tax Director position requires significant knowledge of ad valorem tax laws, laws associated with the collection of fines and an accounting background.
Tax Office
The tax office collects and disburse more than $450 million annually in property taxes for East Baton Rouge Parish. The taxes are disbursed each month to the various taxing entities such as the School Board, Assessor, BREC, City/Parish and Fire Districts.
Fines Department
The fines department collects all criminal and traffic fines for the 19th Judicial District Court and remits these amounts to the courts and appropriate agencies on a monthly basis.
