SDTF Arrests Elementary Student With Unloaded Gun

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office School Drug Task Force responded to La Belle Aire Elementary located at 12255 Tams Dr. at approximately 9:30 this morning in reference to a gun found in a 5th grade student’s possession.

The principal stated that she received reports regarding an 11-year-old student playing with a gun and lighter before school off campus. The principal then stated that when the female student arrived at school with her mother, she was searched for weapons and an unloaded .40 caliber handgun was located in the student’s book bag. The principal confiscated the weapon and informed School Drug Task Force.

The juvenile was transported to the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center where she was charged with LRS 14:95.2 Titled Illegal Carrying a Firearm or Dangerous Weapon on School Property and 14:95.6 Firearm-Free Zone.
