EBRSO K-9 Team Discovers Fifteen Pounds of Heroin in Fire Extinguishers

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) arrested a man early this morning found transporting more than 15 pounds of Heroin hidden in fire extinguishers.

Juan Vasquez, 26, of McAllen, TX is charged with Possession With Intent to Distribute Schedule I Heroin.

According to reports, EBRSO Narcotics deputy and K-9 Jumma were conducting patrols on Interstate 12 early this morning when they observed a bus fail to signal when changing lanes. When the deputy stopped the vehicle, he requested to check the luggage compartment of the bus and the driver complied. EBRSO K-9 Jumma alerted to a narcotic odor from a bag under the bus. Deputy located two fire extinguishers that were filled with approximately 7.2 kilograms of Heroin inside the bag.

“It is imperative that we get Heroin off our streets in East Baton Rouge Parish,” Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said. “Too many young people are dying from this dangerous drug.”

Vasquez was transported and booked into parish prison on the above listed charges.
