All users of alarm systems within the City of Baton Rouge and within East Baton Rouge Parish are required by Title 9, chapter 422 of the City-Parish Code to pay a one-time fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) to offset the cost of regulating false alarms. The user shall register the alarm system in his or her name within thirty days (30 days) of either the installation of the system or taking control of an alarm system in an existing structure. Although this fee is a one-time fee, it is however, non-transferable. Should you move to another location, you must register and pay the registration fee again.
Title 9, chapter 423 provides each user of an alarm system three (3) false alarms each fiscal year without penalty; (our fiscal year runs from June 1st through May 31st of the following year). The alarm user will be assessed a twenty-five dollar ($25.00) fine for the fourth (4th) false alarm; fifty dollar (50.00) fine for the fifth (5th) false alarm; seventy-five dollar ($75.00) fine for the sixth (6th) false alarm; one hundred dollar ($100.00) fine for the seventh (7th) false alarm; one hundred- twenty five dollar ($125.00) fine for the eighth (8th) false alarm; one hundred-fifty dollar ($150.00) fine for the ninth (9th) false alarm; one hundred-seventy five dollar ($175.00) fine for the tenth (10th) false alarm; and a two hundred dollar ($200.00) fine for each false alarm thereafter.
In order to track these alarms throughout East Baton Rouge Parish, a computerized billing system has been installed in the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. The ordinance prohibits operating an alarm system without a permit. Violators of the chapter shall be fined, upon conviction, not less than one hundred dollars ($100.00), nor more than two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) for each calendar day of violation.
